Job Description
Responsibilities:
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory output standards.
- Identify and take action to resolve any poor performance of the process and undertake in depth analysis of the process and identify solutions at the optimum operating cost. Provide advice to maintenance departments as appropriate.
- Oversee contractors and ensure compliance with company and statutory standards both during design review and implementation of design.
- Monitor, observe and interpret operating conditions and initiate maintenance / corrective action as required.
- Ensure monitoring samples are taken in line with the sample schedule plan. To ensure a log of operations and records of meter and gauge readings is correctly undertaken. Reviews and evaluates test results reports, records logs and graphs to assure proper evaluation of facility / system.
- Ensure operation of plant mechanical and electrical equipment to maintain the process.
- Identifies, collects, compiles, and analyzes data for process use, development of standard operating procedures, reports, and planning.
- Responsible for the collection and analysis of samples for NPDES and DEP permit and quality monitoring and plant process control.
- Performs scheduled analysis including analysis of liquid, solid and air samples, for plant process control. Prepares reagents and glassware including general housekeeping duties.
- Undertakes quality control analysis by producing duplicate analysis, analysis standards, blanks and spike recovery.
- Ensures appropriate reagents and equipment are available and assists in ordering same in accordance with company procedures.
- Ensures compliance with all procedures for Laboratory accreditation including participation in regulatory inspections.
- Prepares reports and provides data in a form suitable for routine process review
- Highlights analytical results when they are abnormal
- Performs duties of Chief Plant Operator in his/her absence when requested by management
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Certification: Connecticut Class II Wastewater Operator License.
- Licenses: Valid CDL Class B Driver's License with air brake.
- Job class requires 40 hours per week which may include scheduled weekend duty.
- Incumbents in this position are expected to be on call and will be required to work overtime as needed.
- High School diploma or equivalent
Physical Demands: The Plant Operator will be required to comply with all Health and Safety procedure and will be capable of performing a wide variety of operational tasks including heavy manual work within an often-difficult working environment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Constantly move about job site and facility to access indoor and outdoor equipment.
- Constantly operate tools, motorized equipment such as pumps and engines as well as computer and other office productivity machinery.
- Occasionally ascends/descends a ladder to service equipment at the facility.
- Very often positions self to maintain equipment including positions such as crawling, stooping, bending and kneeling.
- Constantly communicates with other employees and supervisors about the maintenance of the facility and equipment.
- Must be able to recognize problems and access the seriousness of the situation to take corrective action. Must observe and inspect the condition of equipment to prevent serious malfunctions.
- Frequently moves materials and equipment up to 50Lbs.
