What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Manager of Payments position at Weave?
As the General Manager of Payments at Weave, you will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our payment operations, ensuring seamless and secure payment processing for our clients. You will play a critical role in developing and executing the payment strategy, establishing reporting on key metrics, managing partnerships with payment service providers, driving innovation in our payment systems, and owning the P&L. The right candidate for this will be a proven results oriented leader who possesses outstanding business acumen in both the Saas / Payments business model and also in the operations and key business processes of SMB businesses. In this role, you will obsess over the optimization of our payments revenue opportunity at Weave. You will uncover opportunities to deepen our penetration rates, increase payment volumes, and optimize our net yield. You understand that to accomplish this, our payment solution will need to solve real problems for our customers. So you will identify new features and payment workflows that will reduce transaction friction and increase payment collection for the customers we serve.
This position will report to our CRO and will be in-office at Weave HQ in Lehi, UT.
What You Will Own
Payment Strategy and Operations:
- Utilize your expert business modeling skills to envision and articulate opportunity to monetization
- Develop and execute the overall payment strategy in alignment with company goals and objectives
- Establish and use reporting on key metrics that will guide Weave to optimally build and execute against our payments opportunities
- Oversee payment operations, including transaction processing, reconciliation, and fraud prevention, ensuring accuracy, efficiency, and compliance
- Monitor industry trends, regulations, and emerging technologies to identify opportunities for process improvement and innovation
Partnership Management:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with payment service providers, acquirers, and processors
- Negotiate contracts, terms, and pricing to optimize payment processing services and minimize costs
- Stay informed about industry updates and changes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and standards
Optimization of Payments Revenue Opportunity:
- Understand the payments revenue opportunity at Weave and develop a strategy and supporting operational execution to maximize our revenue opportunity and customer value
- Collaborate with the Product team to identify new workflows or user experiences that improve our value proposition and drive payment product adoption and usage
- Work closely with the Sales team to improve tactics and incentive structures that encourage customers to choose our payments solution
- Partner with the Marketing team to enhance our storytelling and effectively communicate the benefits of our payments product to prospective customers
Team Leadership and Development:
- Lead and mentor a team of payment professionals, fostering a culture of high performance, collaboration, and continuous improvement
- Set clear objectives, provide regular feedback, and promote professional growth for team members
- Foster cross-functional collaboration to ensure effective communication and coordination between payment operations and other departments
- Educate the entire organization on the payments opportunity and the nuances of the payments business, processes, and strategy
Risk Management and Compliance:
- Partner with our legal & compliance organization to implement and maintain robust risk management practices to mitigate fraud, chargebacks, and other payment-related risks
- Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements; such as PCI-DSS, GDPR, and other applicable industry standards
- Monitor and analyze payment data to identify patterns, trends, and potential issues, taking proactive measures to mitigate risks
Stakeholder Communication:
- Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including finance, product, engineering, sales, marketing, and customer success teams, to align payment operations with company objectives
- Communicate effectively with clients and external partners regarding payment-related matters, addressing inquiries, and resolving issues in a timely manner
- Educate the organization
What You Will Need to Accomplish the Job
- 10 Years of experience in payments
- 5 years of experience in SaaS
- SMB Experience a MUST
- Proven experience in a senior leadership role
- Strong knowledge of payment systems, technologies, and industry best practices
- Demonstrated excellence in managing partnerships with payment service providers and processors
- Deep understanding of payment regulations, compliance requirements, and risk management practices
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop a high-performing team
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a strategic mindset and attention to detail
