Requirements and Responsibilities
Athletics Director is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a university/college athletic department. Develops and implements strategic plans for the university/college athletic programs. Being an Athletics Director ensures the athletic program strategy is aligned with the organization's mission and values. Manages the public image of the athletic program, including media relations and promoting the program's achievements. Additionally, Athletics Director ensures the athletic program adheres to all relevant rules, regulations, and policies, including those set by the school, state, and the NCAA. Requires a bachelor's degree. Typically reports to senior management. The Athletics Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Athletics Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
