Requirements and Responsibilities
Energy Distribution Systems Director directs the overall operations, maintenance, and performance of electric and gas distribution systems to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective service delivery across the service territory. Establishes strategic goals, operating standards, and long-range plans for distribution system operations, maintenance, and infrastructure investment. Being an Energy Distribution Systems Director oversees the development and execution of capital and operating budgets, workforce planning, and asset management programs. Ensures compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements and represents the organization in dealings with regulators, agencies, and stakeholders. Additionally, Energy Distribution Systems Director analyzes reliability performance, cost trends, and system data to guide policy, capital allocation, and continuous improvement initiatives. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require NERC System Operator Certification. Typically reports to senior management. The Energy Distribution Systems Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be an Energy Distribution Systems Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
