Requirements and Responsibilities

Phlebotomist draws and collects blood from patients and prepares the samples for testing. Verifies the patient's records, enters data into the system, and prepares specimens for laboratory analysis. Being a Phlebotomist may conduct intake interviews, take vital signs, and draw blood samples at a blood bank. Requires a high school diploma. Additionally, Phlebotomist typically requires certification by a nationally recognized body. Typically reports to a supervisor. Phlebotomist's years of experience requirement may be unspecified. Certification and/or licensing in the position's specialty is the main requirement.
