Requirements and Responsibilities
Power System Dispatch Director directs the overall strategy, operations, and reliability performance of an organization's power system dispatch function to ensure the safe, secure, and economic delivery of electricity across the transmission and distribution network. Establishes operating policies, procedures, and long-range plans that align real-time system operations with regulatory requirements, reliability standards, and business objectives. Being a Power System Dispatch Director oversees load forecasting, generation dispatch, transmission switching, and outage coordination activities to maintain system stability under normal and emergency conditions. Ensures compliance with NERC reliability standards, regional transmission organization requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations. Additionally, Power System Dispatch Director leads emergency response and system restoration planning, and represents the organization in interactions with regulators, reliability coordinators, and neighboring balancing authorities. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require NERC System Operator Certification. Typically reports to senior management. The Power System Dispatch Director manages a departmental sub-function within a broader departmental function. Creates functional strategies and specific objectives for the sub-function and develops budgets/policies/procedures to support the functional infrastructure. To be a Power System Dispatch Director typically requires 5+ years of managerial experience. Deep knowledge of the managed sub-function and solid knowledge of the overall departmental function.
