Requirements and Responsibilities
Power System Dispatcher III operates and monitors the power transmission and distribution system in real time to maintain the reliable, safe, and economic delivery of electricity. Ensures voltage is within schedule and specification, performs transmission switching, and balances electricity supply against demand in response to changing system conditions. Being a Power System Dispatcher III monitors system status and takes corrective action during abnormal conditions and contingencies. Issues and coordinates switching orders and clearances with field personnel to support outages, maintenance, and system restoration. Additionally, Power System Dispatcher III maintains detailed operating logs and communicates system conditions to supervisors, field crews, and interconnected systems. Requires a high school diploma. May require NERC System Operator Certification. Typically reports to a supervisor. The Power System Dispatcher III works independently within established procedures associated with the specific job function. Has gained proficiency in multiple competencies relevant to the job. To be a Power System Dispatcher III typically requires 3-5 years of related experience.
