Requirements and Responsibilities
Sanitation Department Supervisor supervises sanitation crews and daily collection operations to ensure timely, safe, and compliant waste removal services. Supervises sanitation workers and coordinates daily route assignments and schedules. Being a Sanitation Department Supervisor monitors collection operations to ensure routes are completed safely and on time. Inspects equipment and vehicles to verify proper condition and reports maintenance needs. Additionally, Sanitation Department Supervisor trains crew members on safe work practices and proper waste handling procedures. Enforces safety, health, and environmental compliance standards in the field. Addresses service issues and resolves operational problems as they arise. Requires a high school diploma. Typically reports to a manager. The Sanitation Department Supervisor supervises a group of primarily para-professional level staffs. May also be a level above a supervisor within high volume administrative/production environments. Makes day-to-day decisions within or for a group/small department. Has some authority for personnel actions. To be a Sanitation Department Supervisor typically requires 3-5 years experience in the related area as an individual contributor.
