Requirements and Responsibilities

Underwriter I - P&C is responsible for reviewing and analyzing property and casualty (P&C) insurance applications. Evaluates and analyzes inspection reports, location, risk, credit reports, and additional information to accept, decline, or renew an application. Being an Underwriter I - P&C utilizes and follows underwriting guidelines, rules, and standards. Determines appropriate premium rates and issues coverage. Additionally, Underwriter I - P&C provides customer services regarding underwriting processes and decisions. Ensures compliance with all industry and governmental regulations. Requires a bachelor's degree. May require Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU). Typically reports to a manager. The Underwriter I - P&C work is closely managed. Works on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. To be an Underwriter I - P&C typically requires 0-2 years of related experience.
