Before you start monitoring or tracking employees, make sure you understand the laws that apply in each location you are tracking. Some states, like California, have restrictions and requirements that apply.
The most important thing you can do for employees affected by disaster is offer flexibility and compassion for people who are not okay and doing the best they can to function, take care of basic needs, and start to make sense of their lives. It's a long road and much of the work is invisible.
When organizations get focused on pay equity, there's a real opportunity to create a workplace for everyone where real problems can get solved. And that would be a great change that's good for business and employees.
Vacation or PTO is generally considered wages that the employee has earned. It's the employee's time and money. Respect their wishes about how they want to spend it.
