A Certified Medication Aide (CMA) is a healthcare professional who has initially completed the training and certification requirements to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and has further undergone specialized training to obtain certification for medication administration. Unlike CNAs, who primarily assist with basic patient care activities such as bathing, dressing, and mobility, CMAs are authorized to dispense and administer medications under the supervision of a licensed healthcare provider, typically in settings like assisted living facilities or nursing homes. This additional qualification allows CMAs to play a vital role in ensuring residents receive their medications accurately and on time, thereby enhancing the quality of care provided. While all CMAs are CNAs by virtue of their foundational training, not all CNAs are certified medication aides, as the latter have completed the extra training and certification necessary for medication management.
