According to a study by David Spears, a graduate of George Fox University, panhandlers in Oregon City make an average of $11.10 per hour, which is higher than the minimum wage. The amount of money panhandlers make varies greatly depending on the state they are in, with those in California reportedly making anywhere from $10 to $25 per hour. In addition to cash, panhandlers also receive food, beverages, clothing, and other supplies. David found that 1 out of every 59 people driving by gave money, with middle-aged people being the most generous. Some people even offered jobs or rides, while others gave gift cards and homeless care packages.
