In a workplace hierarchy, which is ranked higher, a manager or a supervisor?

Managers generally hold a higher position than supervisors in terms of management. In most companies, managers are part of the middle-level management and report to a director or vice president. They have the authority to hire, fire, and promote employees. On the other hand, supervisors typically report to managers and do not have the authority to fire or promote employees.
