In the US, FICA, or the Federal Insurance Contributions Act, is a federal payroll tax that is deducted from each paycheck. It is closely related to social security, as it helps fund social security benefits and other services like Medicare. Your social security number is used to track and record FICA payments, which can earn you credits for future Social Security benefits.
