What is a developmental psychologist?

Developmental psychologists specialize in studying human development and its connection to cognitive abilities and health. Due to the wide scope of this field, many psychologists choose to focus on a particular stage of life. For instance, some may work with young children who have delays in motor and speech skills, developing treatment plans to assist the child and their family in managing these challenges. Others may pursue careers in academia, conducting research and teaching at the university level.
