Both Licensed Mental Health Counselors (LMHCs) and Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) offer counseling services to their clients and both require a master‘s degree. LMHCs usually attend a psychology or counseling graduate program, while LCSWs pursue a master‘s degree in social work (MSW). While LCSWs do provide mental health support, they also assist clients in finding and accessing the resources they need to improve their mental health and other aspects of their lives. In contrast, LMHCs concentrate exclusively on the mental health of their patients. LCSWs often focus on populations that lack access to adequate resources.
