According to the Project Management Institute, individuals with a PMP certification receive, on average, 20% higher salaries than those project managers without the certification.
Many project and program managers hired by the federal government are now required to have PMP certification. This is due to the Program Management Improvement and Accountability Act (PMIAA) OF 2016, which standardizes the training of federal project managers.

Who grants the PMP certification?

The Project Management Institute (PMI), which grants the PMP certification, is the leading membership organization for project management professionals. The PMBok Guide (Project Management Body of Knowledge), is a publication of the PMI which details knowledge and best practices for project management.

What are the requirements for a PMP Certification?

Candidates for the PMP certification must meet all eligibility requirements and then pass the 4 hour PMP exam. For candidates with a Bachelor's degree, 4,500 hours of experience leading projects, and 35 hours of project management education are required. Those candidates with less than a Bachelor's degree must have 7,500 hours of project management experience, and complete 35 hours of project management education.

What preparation is recommended for the PMP exam?

PMP exam prep is recommended! Studying the PMBoK Guide, using self-study books, and taking practice tests are good ways to prepare for the PMP examination. Some people organize study groups with others to share insights and sharpen project management skills.

How much does it cost to obtain PMP certification?

The cost of training and exam fees to obtain the PMP can range between $500 and $4,000 depending on the method and location of training. In person training classes are generally more expensive than online or self-learning options.
