An electrical engineer, also known as an "EE", applies principles of engineering, mathematics, and science to analyze, research, design, and develop a variety of products, equipment, and systems. Electrical engineers may design communications, power generation, and defense systems. They also design various instruments and systems used for consumer, commercial, military, medical and scientific purposes. Electrical engineers often work closely with engineers in other disciplines to analyze and resolve problems with existing products or systems.

What degree or educational requirements does an electrical engineer need?

Electrical engineers typically require a minimum of a bachelor's degree in electrical or electronics engineering. Courses in physics, mathematics, digital systems design, and circuit theory are required as a foundation. A master's degree or Ph.D. is generally preferred or required for higher level positions. Many universities offer cooperative education or internship programs with companies or government agencies to provide hands-on experience.
