How to Become a Dean of Sciences

The Dean is the chief academic, administrative, and financial officer of the College and Graduate School.

The main responsibilities of the Dean are to lead the College by setting priorities, directing academic planning, and working with departments to help them fulfill their academic missions.

The Dean is also the chief advocate for the College in its relationships with the central administration and in representing the College to external constituencies.

Provide leadership, management, and development for the division’s day, evening, and weekend programs in the academic year and in the summer.

Oversee hiring of faculty and classified staff for the division; recommend personnel actions to the appropriate Vice President; supervise faculty and classified staff and oversee their evaluation.

Organize and supervise the operation of the division office.

In collaboration with faculty, identify program needs and encourage the development of curriculum; support a variety of methods of instruction, including computer-assisted instruction and distance learning.

In collaboration with appropriate college staff and faculty, ensure course and program articulations are kept current.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has appointed Sue Kelley dean of the School of Sciences, Humanities and Visual Communications.

The School of Sciences, Humanities and Visual Communications offers academic majors in brewing and fermentation science, early childhood education, emergency management, graphic design and art, human services and restorative justice and individualized programs of study.

Prof Nancy Ip, Dean of Science, The Morningside Professor of Life Science and Director of the State Key Laboratory of Molecular Neuroscience at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), has been elected as a Foreign Associate of the US National Academy of Sciences (NAS).

Previously, over a 25-year career at GlaxoSmithKline, Dean demonstrated a strong track record of cross-functional leadership to deliver projects and develop capability across all phases of API process research & development, from early non-clinical supply and route scouting through to validation of commercial control strategies.  Dean received his BSc in Chemistry and Ph.D.
