The Position
The position will be part of a team that plays an important role in maintaining and improving AlburyCity’s tree assets.
Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist in the implementation of tree maintenance and replacement programs
- Assist with tree inspections and associated reporting
- Assist in the maintenance of other parks, reserves, sporting grounds and landscape areas of AlburyCity, when required.
- Use a variety of specialised plant and equipment.
- Assist in the preparation of designs and coordinate projects as necessary.
- Provide advice to groups and the public in an informed and professional manner.
- Operate all plant in accordance with the manufacturers’ requirements, licence conditions, WorkCover regulations and council policies.
- Perform other tasks or duties as directed by the Supervisor which are within the limits of the employee’s skill, competence and training.
- Observe requirements of the WHS Legislation, relevant to the job and adhere to AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding WHS.
- Observe appropriate AlburyCity Policies and Procedures regarding day to day operations including Equal Employment Opportunity policies, AlburyCity’s Dress Code and Standards Policy and AlburyCity’s Code of Conduct.

Employment Conditions
- Based on a 38 hour week, with actual days and times being Monday to Friday, 7am to 4pm, with an RDO in accordance with AlburyCity’s RDO guidelines. These times may vary due to operational requirements and will be determined by the supervisor.
- This position may involve work outside normal working hours. Additional hours over the standard 38 hours will attract a time in lieu arrangement or payment of overtime rates as agreed in advance with your supervisor.
- This position requires you to wear a compulsory uniform as per AlburyCity’s Our People Dress Code Standards. Our People are required to present a smart and professional image to the public at all times including when in public and when working remotely.
- In line with the provisions of the Local Government (State) Award, this position will receive the Level 1, Adverse Working Conditions Allowance, in accordance with the Award.
- This position will be provided with vaccination against the following infectious diseases:
- This position involves working in a predominantly outdoor environment where a varying range of temperatures, weather conditions and walking surfaces may be experienced. The position requires a moderate level of aerobic and physical fitness to undertake regular physical activities such as walking, lifting, pulling, pushing along with the capacity to maintain normal manual handling tasks across the work day – depending on the nature of the tasks undertaken. The use of relevant work method statements and appropriate WHS standards are an integral part of the role. A full functional and medical assessment is required for this position.
- This position is subject to preemployment and ongoing audiometric (hearing) assessment in accordance with AlburyCity Procedures.
- This position is subject to alcohol and other drug testing.
- This position is located at the City Landscapes depot, Smollett Street Albury with visits to external sites/depots as required
Essential Criteria
- Certificate III in Arboriculture/Horticultural discipline or relevant industry experience
- Medium Rigid (MR) Driver's Licence (compulsory to have and maintain)
- Construction Induction Certificate (White card)
Desierable Criteria
- Elevated Work Platform (EWP) Certificate
- Chainsaw Certificate Level I
- Chainsaw Certificate Level II
- Apply Traffic Control Plans & Traffic Controller Certification (Yellow & Blue Card) or equivalent certification
Experience
- Demonstrated relevant work experience in Arboriculture/Horticulture
Specialist Skills And Knowledge
- A thorough understanding and competence in:
- Small and large plant operation
- Tree preservation
- Maintenance management systems
- Work layout
- Data gathering devices and associated software
- Work Health & Safety requirements
- A working knowledge of:

Infrastructure Planning and Environment - Our Infrastructure, Planning & Environment Directorate focuses on maintaining and improving our special and unique city and its surrounds.
The groups within our directorate take care of our place as well as ensure that we grow and develop the city in a planned, balanced and sustainable way. We invest in and build infrastructure to meet everyone’s needs, and we provide and maintain quality facilities and services that rival, and even surpass, those in larger cities. We are also responsible for preserving our natural environment across our many and varied landscapes.
