We’re seeking a skilled and energetic Baggage Duty Manager to join our aviation team at Melbourne Airport in a permanent role. Reporting to the Baggage Operations Manager, this position is key to ensuring top-notch performance and safety of our baggage handling system.

You’ll lead a dedicated 24/7 team, working closely with various stakeholders to enhance the traveller experience. From coordinating maintenance to driving continuous improvement initiatives, your role will be pivotal in ensuring smooth operations. Key responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with APAM staff, airline partners, and Ground Handling Agents (GHA).
  • Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly reporting on operations.
  • Perform safety observations, reporting, and issue improvement notices.
  • Identify, contribute to, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support root cause failure analysis and assist teams in finding failure resolutions to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Coordinate first response communication with the O&M contractor and relevant stakeholders.
  • Liaise with the Integrated Operations Centre (IOC) and stakeholders to communicate capital works and assess operational impacts.
  • Assist with the coordination of maintenance planning.
  • Support the Baggage Operations Manager with daily interactions with GHA.
  • Maintain an on-site floor presence to ensure system and operational outcomes are as planned.
  • Conduct baggage room safety observations and reporting.
  • Issue penalty infringement notices for non-compliance and manage workplace behaviours.
  • Manage day-to-day baggage coordination, ensuring GHA MUP allocations are met daily.
  • Interface with IOC for escalation and resolution of issues impacting traveller experience.
  • Assist with allocation tasks within the Aviation Planning team.
  • Liaise and communicate with airport staff and key stakeholders during crisis management and problem-resolution situations, in coordination with Shift Leaders.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Good knowledge and experience within the Aviation industry with a focus on airport operations or baggage operations and systems.
  • Understanding of baggage flows, ground handling operations and baggage operating systems is preferred, not mandatory.
  • Demonstrable experience with specialist/operations/project-type responsibilities.
  • Project Co-ordination and possess improvement experience.
