Amazon Australia is seeking a WHS Specialist (WHSS) to serve as a designated safety professional on site. WHSS will be coordinating and implementing all areas of the Amazon Global Safety Program as directed by the safety leadership. The WHSS promotes a positive safety culture while complying with Amazon safety standards and maintaining a safe work environment. This includes conducting trainings and coaching associates on observed work habits.
The WHSS must be an effective communicator and send clear, concise and consistent messages, both verbally and in writing. You will instruct and train associates, operations leaders and WHS coordinators in Amazon policies and procedures and assist the operations site teams in incorporating our standards at their site. You will work to identify best practices and incorporate these standard methodologies into our standards to continuously improve the landscape.
The WHSS is required to maintain accurate daily, weekly, and monthly metrics to report to onsite management teams and corporate based reporting systems. By leveraging lean principles and kaizens, WHSS will lead continuous improvement initiatives to reduce safety and ergonomic risk in our processes to ensure a safe and healthful working environment for our Associates. A successful WHS Specialist will demonstrate the ability to build trust and confidence with the Operations Team and inspire change through providing comprehensive risk assessments and data analysis. The WHSS will also support site WHS manager on the development of the WHS Management System for Australia, establishment of adequacy of WHS procedures and training materials, maintaining compliance calendar, Gensuite/Austin tools, reviewing WHS documents and setting up inspection/audit programs, etc., to meet local requirements and Amazon Global WHS Standards(GEMS).
Key job responsibilities
s the Health and Safety (H&S) Manager, you will oversee the delivery of H&S objectives at the FC. This includes proactively collaborating on safety projects across the site and providing authoritative advice and guidance on H&S matters to all stakeholders.
You will ensure compliance with Amazon's Workplace Health & Safety (WHS) policies and global standards by developing local procedures. This involves completing risk assessments, measuring site performance against requirements, and analyzing safety metrics to identify improvement opportunities.
Frequent site audits and inspections will allow you to identify and rectify any non-compliance issues with equipment or processes. You will also audit record-keeping practices to align with global standards and regulations.
Leading and mentoring the on-site safety team, you will identify compliance issues, safety risks, and improvement opportunities. You will facilitate incident investigations and maintain required documentation, entering safety incidents in the database in a timely manner.
Additionally, you will conduct safety observations and audits, provide targeted training, and participate in process improvement activities.
A day in the life
Review metrics as published in DDD dashboard.
Identify metric callouts and allocate the owners who shall talk through during DDD meeting.
Moderate the WHS metrics/data discussion during DDD meeting.
Review investigation, root cause analysis and action .plan submitted by the responsible manager, provide feedback as needed.
About The Team
The WHS team at MEL5 is led by a Senior WHS Manager. The team is composed of the following members:
WHS Specialist
3 WHS Coordinators
1 WHS Coordinator for the Night Shift (Monday to Thursday)
1 WHS Coordinator for the Front Half (Sunday to Wednesday)
1 WHS Coordinator for the Back Half (Wednesday to Saturday)
Basic Qualifications
- 1 years of workplace health & safety (WHS) related field experience
- Experience using Microsoft Word in a professional capacity
- Experience maintaining confidentiality in matters involving security or personnel issues in the workplace
- Certificate IV in Workplace Health and Safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in emergency response
- Experience in worker's compensation case management
