We are seeking an experienced Clinical Midwife Educator for our Pilbara Maternity Ward at Hedland Health Campus in the Pilbara. This is a Permanent position with Full-Time hours.

About this role: The Clinical Midwifery Educator identifies strategies to promote and embed a learning culture that supports positive maternal outcomes and delivery of a women centred service. Collaborates with the Maternity Unit Managers and Clinical Leads in development and management of orientation and performance development programs to meet the education and training needs of midwifery staff within the maternity service, as well as the education and training needs for non-maternity staff for maternal and newborn care. Collaborates with the Maternity Unit Managers and Clinical Leads to determine personal and professional competencies integral to care delivery in the local unit and required of midwifery staff, as well as other clinicians.

This is a regional position that coordinates maternity education across our two birthing sites: Hedland Health Campus and Karratha Health Campus. The role also coordinates education for non-maternity care staff across our other non-birthing WACHS sites: Newman, Tom Price, Paraburdoo, Onslow, Roebourne, Marble Bar and Nullagine.
Hedland Health Campus is a Level 4 regional hospital in South Hedland with access to obstetricians, paediatricians, and anaesthetists. It is the regional referral centre for the Pilbara for all births greater than 34 weeks, with a Level 2 Special Care Nursery and midwifery-led antenatal care for women living in Hedland) and surrounding communities. Care is provided for 300 births annually. The Campus (Hospital) is a 68-bed hospital facility, providing a range of in-patient, community-based and Telehealth services, including Operating Theatres, ED and HDU.
Karratha Health Campus is a district hospital in Karratha that provides care for low-risk pregnancies and births (around 300 each year). Much of the Maternity Care is provided by Karratha's Midwifery Group Practice. The Campus (Hospital) is a 40-bed facility, providing a range of services that includes Visiting Specialist Obstetrician and Anaesthetic services, Operating Theatres, and ED.
Inland Community Midwives provide antenatal and postnatal care for families in the non-birthing sites of Newman, Tom Price and Paraburdoo.

The Kimberley Region lies to its north across the Great Sandy Desert and the Pilbara’s southern area reaches the Midwest and Goldfields region. Today the Pilbara economy is crucial to WA, providing the state’s largest export revenue earners – iron ore and liquified natural gas. The major population centers are Port Hedland, Karratha, Newman and Tom Price. Median population age is 35.
