The Adams Lake Indian Band is looking for a Social Worker. Reporting to and under the direction of the Stsmemelt and Child & Family Director, the Social Worker is responsible for supporting the social work team by providing community based social services to identified groups, individuals, and families within applicable legislation to protect and improve the social well-being and functioning of families and individuals. Duties of social workers include handling their own ongoing case load in addition to providing guidance and consultation to agency staff.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs all duties and responsibilities in accordance with Adams Lake Indian Band policies and procedures
- Provides Designated Band Representative duties including being the community point of contact for external child welfare agencies.
- Provide community child, youth, and family prevention services, support within the applicable legislation, to prevent children, youth, and families from being removed from their homes, families, and communities
- Advocates for families re: apprehension of children in immediate need of protection
- Provide family counselling referrals to assist clients to identify problems and possible solutions
- Participates in the development of team strategic plans for community development and program management
- Provides life skills support or referrals to individuals and families
- Assists with coordinating and facilitating programs and resources to build capacity
- Works in conjunction with other departments in the delivery of services
- Develops and maintains client data in the Mustimuhw Health Information System
- Promotes the Sexqeltqin and Nexe7yelst Health Centres activities
- Maintains the work area in a clean and professional manner
- Performs other related duties as required
QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in social work
- Current full registration with British Columbia College of Social Workers
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in working with indigenous communities at risk
- Possess strong computer skills using MS Office and Mustimuhw Health Information System software
- Must have well developed organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
- Ability to develop positive rapport
- Excellent analytical and interviewing skills to achieve desired results
- Diplomacy, tact, and confidentiality in dealing with a variety of people and information
- Maintain reliability, punctuality and dependability
- Self-motivated and an ability to work independently
- Good interpersonal skills
- Ability to work in a team orientated environment
- Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License
- Must be flexible, adaptable, and able to work effectively in a variety of settings and in cross cultural situations
- Good judgement and problem-solving skills must be exercised at all times;
- Interest in continuous learning
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Not applicable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Those normally associated with a typical office environment. Continuous visual concentration on computer/laptop. Travel to home visits and between communities.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Some work is performed in a typical office environment. Home visits, interacting with children and families. High stress and physical danger from crisis intervention. Most often respond to emergency situations.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Fulltime Permanent Position
Wage offered will be dependent on education and experience varying between $32 - $36 per hour.
Hours per week: up to 75 hours biweekly (max 37.5 hrs./week)
