Our Board of Directors is composed of 12 elected Student Executives and Student Councilors from each of the different Schools at BCIT.

The Opportunity

The People & Culture Specialist is a relationship builder who participates in a variety of human resources functions within the People and Culture department. Using a collaborative and coaching approach, this role advises and supports leaders with human resources related issues including resolving conflict, best practices, employment law, employee relations, and other HR-related information. The People & Culture Specialist incorporates BCITSA’s equity, diversity and inclusion values into their work and professional relationships. The People & Culture Specialist also works on diverse projects for the advancement of the BCITSA People & Culture Portfolio, as assigned by the People and Culture Director.

What You Will Do:

  • Participate in all People & Culture functions including full-cycle recruiting, onboarding, terminations, benefits, training & development, recognition and performance management
  • Participate in developing training and development initiatives to increase the knowledge and capacity of teams and leaders
  • Coach and support leaders in the management of their teams and all aspects relating to People & Culture
  • Ensure legal compliance of all processes; maintain files in compliance with best practices and with the strictest of confidentiality
  • Administer benefits for employees including initiation and termination, providing information and submitting forms to the provider
  • Conduct full cycle recruitment including developing and writing job descriptions, conducting interviews, presenting offers, create employment agreements and supporting managers in the offboarding process
  • Gain expertise in the organization's HRIS system and ensure employees and managers consistently and accurately use the HRIS
  • Understand and demonstrate effective and accurate HRIS processes and input and maintain records accurately and in a timely manner
  • Participate on committees related to People & Culture including the Social, Health and Safety and the EDI Committees

About You:

You are an experienced human resource professional with strong technical acumen and the ability to provide collaborative support to diverse teams including childcare, retail, food and beverage, student services and administration. You enjoy building relationships, and you thrive in a student-focussed, post-secondary and non-profit environment. You also have:

  • Minimum 5 years progressive HR experience
  • Post secondary education with a focus on Human Resources or a related field of study
  • Human Resources designation preferred (CPHR or CHRL) in Human Resources or equivalent training
  • Strong digital literacy, technical acumen and experience using HRIS systems
  • Working knowledge of workplace-related legislation (Employment Standards), human resources policies and procedures, recruitment and retention, and talent management
  • Demonstrated ability to engage stakeholders though a collaborative approach
  • Knowledge of HR best practices, tools, programs, emerging trends and potential issues

Pay: $66,643.00-$83,242.00 per year
