Established in 1973, Birnam Excavating Ltd. is a privately owned, family run company engaged in the sewer, watermain, roadbuilding and general contracting industry. Our work involves upgrading key infrastructure under the ground in addition to providing quality surface works, as well as mechanical systems, process works, water and wastewater and general infrastructure projects.
We are seeking a motivated and reliable individual to join our team as a Shop Helper & Small Engine Mechanic. As a vital member of our shop, you will assist our experienced mechanics in various tasks to ensure the smooth operation of our shop. The ideal candidate will have experience diagnosing and repairing small engines and a strong mechanical aptitude.
This is a full-time permanent position. We offer a full, competitive compensation package.
Key Responsibilities:
· Perform basic maintenance on vehicles (i.e. oil changes, fluid changes, tire rotations, etc).
· Perform repairs and replacements of faulty parts using hand tools, power tools, and specialized equipment.
· Help maintain a clean and organized work environment.
· Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with small engines.
· Ensure work is completed in a safe and efficient manner, on or ahead of schedule.
· Be safety conscious and aware of surroundings and conditions at all times.
Qualifications:
· Ability to take responsibility for own work and identify opportunities for improvement.
· Excellent communication, inter-personal and organizational skills.
· Mechanical aptitude.
· Experience working on small engines.
