The Role:
Canco is seeking a driven and detail-oriented Legal Assistant to support key duties for the Legal team. The right candidate will develop a deep understanding of the PR group’s strategic alignment and work with the Legal team to meet the department’s goals. This role involves ensuring accuracy and compliance with legal procedures.
The Legal Assistant will work with Canco staff across internal and external parties to ensure that compliances are being met. These internal departments include acquisitions, finance, operations, and may also include interactions with human resources, category, etc.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct Legal research on various topics, statutes, and case law to support lawyers in case preparation and decision-making.
- Assist in drafting and editing legal documents, including contracts, pleadings, briefs, court forms, correspondence, and other documents.
- Ensure accuracy and compliance with legal procedures.
- Organize and manage case files, maintaining accurate and up-to-date records of legal documents, court filings, and other documents.
- Liaise with clients, lawyers, and external parties to facilitate communication and gather necessary information for legal proceedings or negotiations.
- Prepare and file legal documents with courts and administrative bodies, ensuring adherence to deadlines and procedural requirements.
- Provide administrative support to lawyers, including scheduling appointments, managing calendars, travel arrangements and handling routine correspondence.
- Maintain and update legal databases, tracking key dates, deadlines, and case-related information.
- Assist in annual filings for all entries within the PR group.
- Other duties as required.
What You Bring:
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a corporate and/or legal environment. Knowledge of legal procedures and practices is an asset.
- Critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and with a team.
- Ability to deal with and handle confidential information with a high degree of professionalism.
- Strong computer literacy and proficiency with Microsoft Office (ex. Word, SharePoint, Excel, and Teams).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skill is a must.
- Successful completion of a legal certificate or degree or equivalent work experience in a related field is an asset.
Salary Range: $50,000 - $60,000 annually
This role is a Permanent Full-Time position at our Kelowna BC Head Office.
