Job Posting for Public Works Manager at Cheam First Nation
Job Overview:
We are seeking a dedicated Public Works Manager to oversee the operations and maintenance of Cheam First Nation infrastructure and facilities. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing a team, coordinating projects, and ensuring the efficient functioning of public works services.
Responsibilities:
Develop annual department work plan.
Prepare comprehensive reports, plans, and budgets as required. Maintain accurate records.
Research, introduce, develop, implement, evaluate and update operational and capital project plans in conjunction with the Lands and Capital Director.
Plan, organize, control, integrate and evaluate all Public Works’ functions to ensure effective and safe completion of all public works tasks.
Develop, review, approve and submit departmental purchases and contracts, monitoring budgets and expenditures, and revise annual budget plans/projections as required.
Prepare, review and approve purchase orders and cheque requisitions, ensuring that program expenditures are made within budgetary parameters.
Ensure that all external reporting required for the various projects are submitted to funding, regional, or legislative bodies in a timely manner.
Ensure that all assets, materials and supplies are safeguarded, tracked and that inventory records are updated as required.
Ensure compliance with all Occupational Health and Safety Standards.
Supervise, manage, orientate/mentor/coach/train and evaluate Public Works’ department personnel. Identify gaps in manpower, training, skills and abilities and work to strategize solutions for deficiencies.
Ensures Municipal type agreements are reviewed and in-place.
Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
Post-Secondary Education in Project Management, Construction and/or other related disciplines.
5 years progressive experience in a related field with a minimum of 3 years of management experience; or a relevant combination of education and experience will be considered.
Strong leadership and communication skills
Knowledge of local government regulations and procedures
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency in project management software and MS Office suite
Nice-to-Have Skills: - Familiarity with grant writing and funding opportunities
