This is operational and building service work performed in a multi-use aquatic facility. The incumbent checks, adjusts and operates a variety of equipment such as pumps, valves, gauges, chlorinators, heating units, boilers, chlorine tanks, pipes, meters and motors as necessary to ensure the water quality and effective operation of the facility; records gauge readings and reports malfunctions to a supervisor; performs routine inspection and maintenance of filtration systems, replace and change CO2 tanks, boilers and related pool equipment; performs janitorial and custodial duties; sets up tables and chairs and other furniture for schedule events or activities in the facility; removes on completion; collects and disposes of recycling and garbage; ensures for security; answers patron inquiries; provides routine information and assistance to the public, as required. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12 supplemented by technical training and sound related experience in the operation and maintenance of aquatic facility equipment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Considerable knowledge of operating procedures of water heating, boiling, filtration and chlorination equipment, and the methods, practices and materials used in the operation of aquatic facilities. Sound knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work. Working knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems applicable to the operation of aquatic facilities and equipment. Some knowledge of materials, methods and equipment used in building maintenance and minor repair tasks. Ability to operate, maintain and make minor repairs to equipment typically used in aquatic facilities; deal courteously with staff, patrons and user groups, and to deal tactfully and firmly with same in ensuring observance of facility policies and procedures; understand and follow routine oral and written instructions. Skill in the use of and care of a variety of tools and equipment used in the work. A valid Pool Operator Level 1 Certificate is required.
Pilot Recruitment: This position is posted under the terms of the 2023 Inside Memorandum of Agreement to enable the senior capable applicant to be confirmed into the regular full time position, subject to the successful passing of skills tests applicable to this classification, and that they are not subject to a performance management plan, and they have no discipline or recorded safety infractions in the previous eighteen (18) months. |
