As the Team Lead, Vehicles and Equipment, you will be responsible and accountable for the Vehicle and Equipment (V&E) team and portfolio that supports all divisions in the Water Utility. This includes the strategic management and operational coordination of over 670 V&E assets, and a budget of over $24 million for the Water Utility. In this role, you will execute long-range strategic planning, forecasting and budgeting, while making day-to-day judgement calls to ensure the overall efficiency and effectiveness of this budget and the value it provides to the Water Utility. Primary duties include:
  • Develop and implement annual strategic and business plans that will impact multiple divisions.
  • Research, analyze, and implement change that affects work policies, procedures, and practices by determining long-term issues, problems, and/or opportunities.
  • Manage and coordinate: planned and unplanned maintenance; replacement of end-of-life or accidental loss of vehicles and equipment; modifications to enhance productivity and safety; acquisition of additional growth units as requested; and movement of vehicles to maximize utilization.
  • Supervise the V&E team, including hiring, coaching, training, and financial and performance management.
  • Facilitate claims management by coordinating and collecting data from incident reports, and liaising with the Fleet Services Body Shop and the Law Department Risk Management and Claims.
  • Administer and coordinate the purchase of the Water Utility's commodities and equipment not classified as Fleet Services acquisitions (for example: boiler units, ground thaw units).

Qualifications
  • A degree in Administration, Business, Commerce, Management, Planning, or a related field, supplemented with at least 4 years of fleet management and/or increasingly more responsible government experience; OR
  • A completed 2 year diploma in a related field, combined with at least of 8 years of experience as outlined above.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
  • Preference will be given to applicants with experience working in a utility environment, as well as those with previous supervisory experience.
  • A Professional Logistics (P.Log) and/or Professional Project Management (PMP) designation(s) will be considered strong assets.
  • You are an organized professional who demonstrates sound judgment when dealing with confidential and sensitive information, exceptional attention to detail, success in anticipating work needs, and a proactive approach to addressing safety initiatives.
  • You build strong working relationships, communicate effectively to a wide variety of audiences, and demonstrate efficient methods of utilizing time and resources.

Pre-employment Requirements

  • Must obtain a City of Calgary operator's permit
  • Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications.

Compensation: Level D $74,854 - 111,436 per annum (2024 Rates)
Days of Work: This position works a 5 day
work week earning 1 day off in a 3 week cycle.

Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
