The Comox Valley Marina is looking for a reliable, hard working, self motivated individual who can work independently or as part of a team. You will be responsible for routine maintenance and repairs throughout the Marina to ensure good operational condition for the safety of our customers and staff. This includes the building of docks, dock repairs, plumbing, moving boats, grass cutting, painting, and other maintenance or repair tasks as required.
Duties may include but are not limited to:
- Morning dock walks. Visually checking all boats are safe and secure, ensuring the docks are clean and welcoming for customers and staff, noting any issues needing attention
- Cleaning bathrooms and laundry area daily, including toilets, showers, sinks, mopping and garbage.
- Maintaining the grounds and parking lot which could include weed wacking, leaf blowing, landscaping, power washing, salting, snow removal and picking up litter.
- Dock repair, demolishing and rebuilding wooden and steel docks, woodworking, metalwork, including cutting, grinding, welding, and concrete repair
- General loading /unloading and transporting materials by boat or vehicle to and from docks, the boat ramp, landfill or recycling depot
- Catching mooring lines to assist customers docking their boats
- Temporary cover in the office when needed, answering phones, checking in customers, and receiving payments.
Preference will be given to candidates with a proven history and experience with:
- Safe operating handheld power tools: Circular saws, chop saw, drills, chainsaw, reciprocating saw, grinder and more
- Construction, fabrication or a mechanical aptitude
- Basic plumbing skills: installing and repairing water lines and changing fittings
- Basic electrical work: changing plugs and resetting breakers
- Operating power boats. PCOC card.
- Valid Class 5 Drivers license with clean drivers abstract
- Willing to consent to a criminal records check
We are willing to train the right individual if they lack experience in some areas.
Heavy lifting is required - wood timbers, concrete and steel. Regularly > 50Lbs.
Work takes place outdoors, in all weather conditions, rain or shine or snow.
