Position: Prenatal Coordinator

The Conayt Friendship Society is committed to implementing Canada's Prenatal Nutrition Program (CPNP) and the Province’s Early Childhood Development for Urban Aboriginal Communities (ECD) initiatives. The programs teach, model, and promote positive health practices using outreach, education, practical support, and community development strategies. Both provide our Society and the community with an opportunity to achieve healthy pregnancy and family outcomes for families, women, and youth who are at risk and who do not typically access traditional prenatal and health services.
Conayt is seeking a qualified individual for the role of Prenatal Coordinator to oversee the implementation and creation of services and programs that support the above initiatives.
The goal of the prenatal care coordinator is to establish a connection and provide support for pregnant individuals by linking them to medical, social, and educational resources in order to enhance birth outcomes.
Prenatal Care Coordinator Responsibilities:
Administration:
· Ensure that data related to the program and its participants is collected and maintained.
· Coordinate advertising and promotional materials as needed.
· Prepare and submit periodic and special reports, manuals and correspondence as requested.
· Maintain strong, cooperative relationships and partnerships with other community organizations.
· Assist in recruiting, orienting, and supervising volunteers.
· Practice good stewardship of program resources.
· Seek appropriate authorization of all expenditures and accurate reporting of records.
· Submit written requests for spending outside the approved budget to the Program Coordinator for pre-approval.
· Ensure all invoices are approved and matched with purchase orders as soon as they are received.
Development
· Work with the program team to plan and develop monthly activities for Merritt Moms and Families aimed at improving the quality of care for pregnant women.
· Oversee the Prenatal Outreach Worker.
· Participate in annual performance reviews including identifying training needs.
Program Activities
· Provide counselling and referral services to program participants.
· Conduct home visits.
· Oversee the preparation and clean-up of meals and snacks
· Oversee the distribution of food supplements and clothing.
· Assist in the development and distribution of promotional materials.
· This has been stated above, it’s a given for all program staff
· Set up activities the day before and put away and clean up afterwards.
· Assist the Prenatal Outreach Worker with outreach efforts when necessary.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
· Good computer working knowledge utilizing Microsoft Office Suite software
· Ability to deal with a high volume of work with efficiency and attention to detail
· Strong problem-solving skills
· Ability to work and communicate with clients and varying levels of our Society and external agencies in an efficient and professional manner
· Interpersonal skills – courteous, flexible, cooperative and concerned with being helpful
· Effective work skills – diligent, maintain confidentiality, resourceful and productive
· Knowledge of Aboriginal cultures, Friendship Societies and urban issues
· Knowledge of food security and nutritional needs during pregnancy
· Deal effectively with emergency situations
Other Qualifications & Education Required:
· Diploma or certificate in Human Services (education, social work, health) and 2-3 years experience working with youth, families and vulnerable populations. A combination of education and experience will be considered
· Training or experience in handling difficult or sensitive situations and possessing de-escalation skills is required
· Nutrition certification or training an asset
· Criminal records check required
· Valid driver’s license ad reliable vehicle
