CUPS is seeking CUPS is seeking two Child Development Coordinators to join our Family and Child Development Centre Team in 0.8 FTE roles (30 hours per week)
The Child Development Coordinator is responsible for providing home-based support for families engaged with CUPS Family and Child Development Center. Child Development Coordinator will help families to create and guide the implementation of social skill and behaviour development plans to enhance emotional wellness and engagement in healthy behaviours from a trauma-informed lens. This role will assist families through education and hands-on practical support to navigate various child diagnoses and complex needs and provide strategies to promote optimal child development. This position is key to supporting families to reduce risk factors that have an adverse effect on child development and preventing child maltreatment.
Duties:
- Complete relevant development assessments
- Create and support the implementation of support plans and interventions
- Develop and facilitate group-based sessions for parents, including but not limited to brain development, child social/emotional development, and practical parenting skills
- Collaborate with Family Care Coordinators and other Family and Child Development staff to ensure families and children are receiving integrated and coordinated supports
- Collaborate with case managers within the CUPS community development buildings to develop and deliver appropriate programming for families within those communities
- Collaborate with the Child & Family Development team to ensure that parenting strategies are in line with the developmental needs of the children
- Provide recommendations and coordinate specialized care required for children 12 and under
- Provide warm referrals to internal and external programs for most appropriate intervention and support based on child and family needs
- Collaborate with parents, external partners, community agencies, daycares and health providers in fulfilling family needs and advocating for children and families as needed to obtain required supports
- Maintain detailed and up to date case notes on client interactions.
- Attend outreach events to connect with potential clients in their communities
- Provide culturally aware support to CUPS clients and families, celebrating the diversity of clients and being aware of power dynamics of privilege and oppression that may be present
Areas of Leadership:
- Provides respectful, integrated & trauma-informed care by assisting families where they are at, guiding growth & change in alignment with client created goals
- Operate in synergy with CUPS internal departments, sharing information with colleagues and providing warm referrals to clients for internal services to best support client goal achievement
- Facilitate a healthy and safe work environment through learning and enacting all CUPS health & safety protocols while maintaining an active awareness of clients and colleagues
- Create an approachable, caring and trauma-informed environment for clients, guests and colleagues
- Respect client dignity by ensuring confidential client information is handled with the utmost care and respect in alignment with Health Information Protection Act and CUPS privacy protocols & values
- Promote a culture that reflects CUPS vision, mission, philosophies and values
Stakeholder Relations:
- Develop and maintain collaborative and accountable working relations with internal CUPS colleagues to strengthen communication flow and cross-program understanding
- Work closely with colleagues supporting child development
- Create professional and effective relationships with external agency colleagues to support the effective flow of information to support client success
- Share experience and knowledge with students, volunteers and guests interested in CUPS services to further develop CUPS social justice impact & external ambassador network
Background/Skills Required:
- Degree in Community Rehabilitation, Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Psychology or related human services equivalent
- 3-4 years experience working with children and families with complex needs
- Demonstrated experience in coaching & problem solving
- Exemplary understanding of child development & brain development for children 12 and under
- Practical knowledge of Brain Story, Children’s Ages and Stages, Childhood trauma and barriers related to parenting
- Strong computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite, virtual meeting software, with comfort and ability to learn new software efficiently
- Strong communication skills (oral and written) in English
- Current Adult/Child CPR and First Aid Certification
