Dawson Road Maintenance is looking for a
Manager of Operations who demonstrates exceptional people management skills, meticulous planning and organizational expertise, and practical hands-on experience to consistently achieve company objectives.
In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Road Maintenance, working in the position of
Manager of Operations, reporting to the
Division Manager, Operations. The successful candidate will be the key senior leader and oversee the service provisions within the Dawson Road Maintenance service area assignment. This role has full P&L responsibility for the Service Area.
Your base location will be
Williams Lake, BC and may require some travel throughout our great province.
This role is part of the senior leadership team at Dawson Road Maintenance and will participate in the creation and the execution of the Strategic plans and the annual operating plan.

What Success Looks Like
- Leads the Service Area and is responsible for leadership and management of the operations.
- Provide clear and strategic direction to the supervisory team to ensure compliance with MoTI Maintenance Specifications, Contract Agreement, CVSE requirements, QMS Manual, and procedures, as well as general specifications for highway construction.
- Offer guidance on project-related concerns such as inclement weather, scheduling conflicts, quality control issues, labor disputes, and concerns from contractors or clients.
- Efficiently manage the utilization of resources, materials, and labor to ensure timely completion of various projects.
- Approve, manage, and monitor project schedules and budgets, ensuring the availability of all necessary resources for project completion.
- Promote and advocate for quality achievements and performance improvements throughout the company.
- Collaboratively negotiate contracts with suppliers, sub-contractors, agencies, or other third-party providers of resources, equipment, or labour.
- Drive good financial decisions including the management of the P&L statement.
- Provide guidance during emergencies, washouts, slides, structure damage, avalanches, and other severe weather events.
- Work with Health, Safety & Environment to ensure consistent compliance with WorkSafe BC regulations and requirements, implementing proper procedures according to the Company's Safety Program.
- Act as the management representative in collective agreement bargaining, grievances, mediation, and arbitration to proactively resolve employee issues. Address all employee concerns, including the grievance process, in a timely manner.
- Determine staffing requirements and participate in interviews, hiring, and onboarding of new employees.
- Prioritize coaching and guiding all team members, including the Superintendents, Roads.
What You Bring
- Minimum two (2) years’ experience in a supervisory role
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience and proven track record in infrastructure maintenance with a preference to road and bridge maintenance.
- Post-secondary in a related field preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and related industry experience
- Experience with ISO Compliance and/or other continuous improvement principles
- Knowledge of Ministry of Transportation legislation, standards, and processes for road maintenance
- Experience in leading collective bargaining labour agreements
- Effective leadership skills, with a strong focus on operations and business processes
- Understanding of road maintenance, equipment, and construction industry
- Strong written and verbal communication
