Human Resources Manager
Salary Range
-$75-80,000 per annum, commensurate with skills, qualifications, and experience.

-37.5 hours per week
Location:
-The work will take place at the E2S Offices (6770 129 Ave NW #106, Edmonton, AB T5C 1V7), as well as in different locations across Turtle Island. Remote work can be negotiated. All travel and accommodation expenses for E2S-related travel will be covered by the employer.

Position Summary
The human resources manager will be part of a multidisciplinary team, responsible for hiring, onboarding and training new and existing employees. Staff positions will include but are not limited to administrative staff, managers, educators, advocates, community helpers, and project coordinators in line with our funding agreements.
The human resources manager, in collaboration with the Board of Directors, Executive Director and Financial Controller, will assist in coordinating staff activities and organizational capacity. They will also work closely with the board executive in managing internal and external communications for job postings, coordinating interviews, checking references and providing recommendations on candidate suitability for the role. The job requires specialist skills in human resource management, including payroll and benefits coordination, policy development and most importantly, understanding Indigenous ways of knowing and being, as well as 2SLGBTQIA lived experience.
This role will require flexibility for potential travel to attend conferences, gatherings, and ceremonial responsibilities. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to advance their knowledge and skills in Indigenous 2SLGBTQIA leadership, community building and advancing the reclamation of 2S peoples' place in society.
Duties
● Oversee and plan, coordinate, and direct the administrative functions of the organization. Provide strategic direction on staffing decisions and grant applications that will increase organizational capacity. Assist staff with acquiring the skills, training and outlook to successfully implement the vision and mission of the organization.
● Serve as an influential manager who can lead and motivate staff and volunteers. Possess great communication skills (oral & written) and take a holistic approach to managing the Society’s Vision, Mission and Mandate, especially as it relates to hiring, onboarding and retaining a team that will successfully realize the outcomes required by our funding agreements.
● Reporting directly to the Executive Director, develop and implement strategies for the
recruitment, advancement and professional development of staff. Co-develop policies,
procedures, bylaws and a code of conduct that the Society’s staff will adhere to.
● Collaborate with the Board, staff and policy writer to complete business plans, grant
applications, and annual reports to attain goals and objectives set by the board of directors.
● Build an effective team of leaders by providing guidance, coaching and mentorship to managers, team leaders, staff and consultants/contractors.
● Understanding and adhering to ethical guidelines, project protocols, and research procedures.
● Develop and nurture an effective human resources function to support the team, including
leading all staffing recruitment and retention, ensuring new hires are effectively onboarded, and performance management of employees and contractors.
● Create, negotiate and effectively monitor all employment contracts in collaboration with the Board and Executive Director.
Minimum Qualifications
● Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Law, Indigenous Studies, Queer Studies, or other related experience.
● Experience with and in Indigenous community governance and operations (preference to Treaty 6, 7, or 8 signatory Nations or the Métis Nation)
● Computer literacy and familiarity with standard software, including Microsoft Office and Google Suite products
● Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
● Strong organizational skills
● Ability to work independently and within a team environment
● Accuracy and attention to detail
● Strategic vision and willingness to work closely with the Board and community.
● Satisfactory Criminal Records Check.
● Ability to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends on occasion.
● Willing to acquire a Class 5 Drivers License and access to a personal vehicle within 6 months of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
● Master’s Degree in a related field of study (Accounting, Law, Indigenous Studies, Queer Studies, Native Studies, etc.) or equivalent combinations of experience and education.
● Prior experience with Not-For-Profit organizations in a human resources role.
● Working knowledge of Federal and Provincial Legislation related to Not-for-Profit organizations, as well as Grant applications and maintenance.
● Prior experience with OCAP principles of ethical data stewardship for Indigenous knowledge (OCAP certification training will be provided if needed).
