Duties

The right candidate will be familiar with, and have experience, providing support in the areas of real estate, litigation, corporate law, and personal injury law:

  • Preparing and reviewing a number of documents
  • Draft legal documents such as pleadings, real estate documents, letters, applications, and corporate documents using the firm’s precedents
  • Maintaining confidentiality of client files and records
  • Conduct tax, land title and other legal searches
  • Requesting and reviewing medical, employment and general personal information
  • Organizing files and keeping all filing up to date (both paper and electronic)
  • Format and process a variety of documents, pleadings, agreements, correspondence and reports
  • Responsible for time management and prioritization of tasks for various individuals
  • Proficient at managing a demanding workload supporting a very busy practice

Requirements

  • Completion of a recognized Legal Assistant program
  • 1 - 3 years of relevant experience in-house or at a law firm
  • Previous experience with Court Documents, including Pleadings, Affidavits, Application, Order, etc.
  • Experience with Cosmolex, PC Law or CLIO is a strong asset
  • Previous experience with Alberta Land Titles and their operating system requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong proof reading, grammar and editing skills
  • Solid understanding of title and property searches
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to deadlines
  • A High level of professionalism in dealing with clients and other contacts
  • Able to work independently ensuring ongoing management of files
  • Ability to provide support as needed in other areas as required
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in MS Office Suite: Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
