DESCRIPTION
Come join a team of operational wildfire researchers and make a difference delivering practical solutions for living well with wildfire. Our wildfire operations research program applies sound scientific methods to create impacts for wildfire agencies along the research themes of mitigation and prevention, wildfire response, post-fire response and recovery and national wildfire data collection. We are looking for a team player that has a keen aptitude for learning and an interest in applying their passion for research.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Support Wildfire Operations Researchers both in the office and the field
Assist in the collection, organization and presentation of data
Review, disseminate, and present wildfire literature in both written and presentation formats
Collaborate with other FPInnovations teams and work groups, including Indigenous Programs and Forest Operations
Develop an advanced understanding of wildfire behavior and the wildfire environment
Adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
Work locations: Vancouver or Kamloops, BC or Edmonton, AB; we will consider other locations.
QUALIFICATIONS
Be registered in 3rd year or higher of a Bachelor’s degree (University undergraduate) in Forestry Operations, Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, or equivalent
Applicable wildfire experience
Hold a valid Class 5 Alberta or British Columbia Driver’s license, with clean driving record and have access to a vehicle
Worksafe certification is an asset
SKILLS
Team player, curious and focused on improving the forest industry
Resilience, adaptability to changing priorities; our research is often weather dependent, which requires us to respond quickly to rapidly changing environments and circumstances
Positive attitude and open to learning
Self-motivation and strong organizational skills
Experience with field data collection would be considered an asset
Fluency in English, (spoken and written-scientific writing), French an asset
