Journeyman I - Carpenter

Operations Services – Morinville

(1.0 FTE - 37.5 hours per week)

Position: Reporting to the Manager, Operations & Maintenance or designate, the Carpenter is responsible for maintenance and general repairs as indicated below.

Duties to Commence : Immediately

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Committed to being a model and witness to Christ-centered education values and beliefs.
  • Apply foundational knowledge about First Nations, Métis and Inuit for the benefit of all students, and support the Division’s goals towards advancing Truth and Reconciliation
  • Completion of Grade 12
  • Journeyman certificate in carpentry (minimum 2 years of experience as a certified journeyman or an equivalent combination of experience and education)
  • Technical courses related to the journeyman discipline is an asset
  • Power engineering courses are an asset
  • Must have a valid Alberta Class 5 Operator’s Licence – (will need to provide annual driver’s abstract)
  • Completion of a defensive driving course
  • Knowledge and experience of maintenance and repair of buildings
  • First Aid, WHMIS, & TDG Certification
  • Proficiency with various types of software, including email, work-order systems, etc.
  • Understanding of BAS (building automation systems)
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with others in a team environment

Typical Duties:

  1. Constructing, finishing and installation of millwork
  2. Building modifications and repairs, including existing millwork
  3. Prepare project cost estimates, oversee construction project and work with consultants
  4. Maintenance of building infrastructure
  5. Painting and minor drywall repairs
  6. Minor plumbing and HVAC service and repairs as required
  7. Conduct preventative maintenance checklist and repairs
  8. Responsible for scheduling and prioritizing work load on a day to day basis
  9. Conduct work in accordance with OH&S Act and Regulations and employer policies and/or administrative procedures
  10. Moving of chairs, tables, stages and a variety of other equipment
  11. Various other maintenance duties in schools as assigned by the Manager of Operations and Maintenance, or designate
