Lethbridge County is accepting applications for the 2024 operational season in our Public Works and Agriculture Services departments, based out of our Picture Butte shop. We are looking for skilled team players who will be available to start as early as April 2024 for full-time seasonal work hours through August or October, depending on the position.
The number of vacancies available will depend on the response to our seasonal call back.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Public Works department: operating various pieces of equipment as trained and required on a construction, gravel, base stabilization, or projects crew (e.g., tractor with pull-behind packer, skid steer, etc.)
Agriculture Services department: park maintenance and sprinkler repair, operating various pieces of equipment as trained and required (e.g., mower, weed whipper, weed sprayer).
2. Perform manual labour and assist on various County projects.
3. Traffic control and flagging duties for construction or worksites.
4. Conduct daily inspections and providing basic daily maintenance and servicing of equipment.
5. Participate in operator evaluations to determine competency level on various equipment.
6. Accurate record keeping of daily records, reports, and timesheets.
7. Actively participate in Lethbridge County’s Health and Safety program.
8. Attend training sessions specific to the operational needs of Lethbridge County.
9. Work overtime as required by the department to accomplish tasks in an efficient and timely manner.
10. Follow Occupational Health and Safety requirements, municipal bylaws, County policies, directives, and procedures.
11. Various other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
1. Must have a minimum of a Class 5 Driver’s License in good standing. A 5-year driver’s abstract will be required to ensure compliance with County policy requirements.
2. Grade 12 diploma or GED certificate. Alternate combinations of education and experience may be considered.
3. Public Works department positions: preference will be given to candidates with previous light equipment operation experience.
Agriculture Services department positions: preference will be given to candidates with experience operating mowers, and other related farm equipment. Experience with maintenance and repairs is an asset. These positions can be a great fit for students or semi-retired farmers.
4. Must have experience and knowledge in the operation of various light equipment including hand and power tools.
5. Training for vehicle weights and dimensions and load securement is considered an asset.
6. Ability to work independently, follow directions and use good judgment to interpret, analyze and modify methods and procedures.
7. Strong manual dexterity, hand-eye coordination, and physical capability to:
· withstand long periods of standing and/or sitting.
· walk over rough, uneven terrain.
· perform tasks that require recurring bending, crouching, and reaching.
· lift up to 50kg occasionally as required.
8. Willingness to be outside in a variety of extreme weather conditions.
9. Certification in WHMIS (2015), First Aid/CPR, TDG, Flagger Training, H2S Alive, ICS 100 are considered assets.
10. Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation and workplace safety best practices.
11. Working knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office.
12. Familiarity with Lethbridge County and the Alberta Township System (ATS) road network.
13. Satisfactory Criminal Record Check.
