Position Summary
Reporting to the Associate Dean, School of Interdisciplinary Studies the incumbent will assist students enrolled in the CICE program to maximize their learning potential. In addition to the Facilitation role, the Team Lead will also provide administrative support to the program and its Facilitators.
Duties and Responsibilities
Assists in the transition to College life, including liaising between students and College resources (Financial Aid, Health and Equitable Learning Services, Student Advisors)
Advocates for students’ modified course outcomes, tests and assignments, where required
Provides classroom support via advocacy skills, note taking, group facilitation, etc.
Assists students with organizing and prioritizing classes and assignments
Supports students’ use of assistive devices to enable the use of technology for assignments
Assists students in developing skills in task completion, learning strategies and assistive technology
Works with students to identify appropriate work placement opportunities
Promotes the program to local and regional agencies, schools, employers and community partners
Assists with the recruitment, selection and orientation of eligible students
Provides overall coordination of the programs’ timetabling requirements based on specialized knowledge about each student profile and integration facilitator strength
Establishes and redesigns program systems/routines and develops and maintains record-keeping procedures to monitor same
Assists with scheduling by providing advice on course delivery requirements, finding solutions to lab scheduling errors and changes
Qualifications
A three (3) year diploma in a relevant field of study that may include Developmental Services Worker, Educational Assistant, Child and Youth Worker, Social Service Worker; A degree in Social Science is preferred
Minimum of three (3) years’ experience working with persons with developmental exceptionalities, and/or persons with significant learning challenges
Additional training and/or certification in this area is an asset (e.g. Mental Health First Aid, Behavioural Psychology certification)
Experience leading and organizing in a team environment
Ability to work and make decisions independently as well as demonstrate a high level of initiative
Demonstrated knowledge and experience utilizing educational/learning strategies
Experience in the teaching/tutoring environment where outcomes were modified to meet learner needs
Proficient in the use of computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office, online resources, adaptive learning technologies)
Excellent organizational and creative problem-solving skills
Superior communication skills with a high degree of professionalism and diplomacy
An ability to work within a highly collaborative environment demonstrated through a strong network of contacts with other professionals, agencies and employers
Must have current CPR and First Aid certificates
Ability to travel locally for field placements and student recruitment events
Familiarity with the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework is an asset
Proficiency in American Sign Language is an asset
