Statistical Analyst

Full Time Permanent

Ottawa, Ontario, Canada

Hybrid role


Working in a team environment, you will be providing statistical analysis, quality assurance and research studies on examination and other pertinent data.


What you’ll do

  • Works independently and collaboratively to support operational and research activities.
  • Creates, updates, and maintains scoring systems codes, and other analysis tools.
  • Conducts routine and ad-hoc analysis for examination processing, scoring, and quality assurance.
  • Performs statistical and psychometric analysis, provides summaries in reports, tables, and graphs, and provides written and oral interpretation of findings to psychometricians.
  • Identifies trends, detects irregularities, investigates issues and underlying causes, develops solutions and improvements.
  • Automates reports generation (e.g., Report to the Deans, Technical Reports).
  • Designs, constructs, and manages databases.
  • Develops and updates complex SQL, SAS, and Python codes.
  • Drafts and maintains documentation of codes and processes.
  • Advanced understanding of research questions and requirements, and how to implement statistical models to address research requests.
  • Develops, maintains, and enhances scoring systems through implementing strong programming skills in Python and/or SAS.
  • Understands and translates business requirements to practical specifications and leverages analytical skills to address business requisites and inquiries.
  • Leads the development and design of analysis-related processes, testing plans (e.g., simulating data, creating testing scenarios), and guidelines.
  • Drafts and maintains documentation for analytical tools.
What you need to succeed


Experience:
  • 3-5 years’ experience in data analysis, reporting, and utilizing advanced statistical analytics techniques.
Technical Skills:
  • Demonstrated experience with statistical inference and statistical modeling (e.g., regression models, clustering, factor analysis) using Python or SAS. Experience with machine learning algorithms is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques, developing processes of data cleaning and preparation, and assessing data quality.
  • Experience with automating reports and other forms of data visualization.
  • Experience with documenting code and procedures.
  • Experience with developing and maintaining databases.
  • Knowledge of research and measurement principles and procedures.
  • Proficiency in Python programming (data extraction, data wrangling, analysis, visualization).
  • Proficiency in developing complex and customized SQL queries for relational databases.
  • Proficiency in SAS programming (standard SAS procedures including PROC SQL, PROC Report, PROC SGPLOT and SAS Macros) to conduct analysis and generate customized reports. SAS Certified Professional Advanced Programming is an asset.
  • Experience with business intelligence tools (e.g., Tableau, Microsoft Power BI) is an asset.
  • Experience with collaborating on writing research reports and publications is an asset.
Competencies:
  • Highly developed attention-to-detail
  • Ability to manage multiple changing priorities, including under pressure and while working to deadlines
  • Ability to work independently or within a team
Language:
  • Excellent oral and written skills in English; Oral and written skills in French is a strong asset
Education:
  • Masters in statistics, mathematics, educational measurement, psychometrics, psychology, quantitative methodologies or equivalent
  • SAS Certified Professional Advanced Programming would be considered an asset
