Rainy River Mine
Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. Position Reports To: Senior Engineer
Position Overview
The Drill & Blast EIT is the single point of contact for the design of all drill & blast patterns. They work closely with short range planning, production drilling and explosive loading in order to provide a continuous supply of blasted ore and waste to meet production targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Design production drill patterns, trim shots and pre-shear.
- Prepare pre-load instructions for different types of holes.
- Design timing for production and trim blasts.
- Prepare monthly accruals
- Perform QA/QC in the field.
- Prepare blast notices and the blast notification for the digital sign at the mine entrance.
- Collect and analyze data (i.e. seismograph).
- Coordinate your activities to meet production requirements.
- Work closely with drilling (Mine Operations) and blasting (Dyno Nobel, explosive loading and blasting contractor).
- Perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in mining engineering or similar field and eligibility for membership as an EIT with the PEO
- Have a valid Canadian driver’s license.
- Strong interdepartmental communication skills
- Able to change and re-prioritize tasks as new information is gathered
- Strong ability to self-learn
- Able to work independently or within groups
- Strong computer skills
- Prior experience with MineSight would be considered an asset
- Prior Open pit mining experience would be considered an asset
- Prior drill/blast experience would be considered an asset
Working Conditions
Combination of office and field work. Field work will be in the pit, on blast patterns, working in proximity of drills and emulsion bulk trucks. Frequent exposure to standing and walking for long periods of time, including walking across uneven surfaces. Exposure to inclement weather-related conditions such as cold, heat, rain, and snow. Work involves highly repetitive tasks including lifting / carrying up to 50 lbs on uneven terrain.
