New Afton Mine

Situated 10 kilometers west of Kamloops, British Columbia, the New Afton Mine is an underground gold and copper producing site.

Kamloops is a city of 90,000 people, located 350 kilometers east of Vancouver. The area provides the opportunity to live and work in a vibrant community with its own university and within easy reach of world class ski resorts, championship golf courses, mountain biking trails, popular recreational lakes and award-winning vineyards.

About the Role

Schedule: 7 on 7 off, rotating days and nights

Position Reports To: Underground Shift Supervisor

Position Overview

New Afton is looking for highly motivated, positive team players who are dedicated to safety, equipment care and the environment to join our Underground operations team.

Key Responsibilities

Ensure safe operation in striving to meet production targets;
Operate long hole drill, shotcrete equipment, scoop tram, haul truck and/or other underground equipment;
Share knowledge and mentor other team members; and
Complete other labour tasks as required.

Qualifications

Possess Grade 12 diploma or equivalent;
Has considerable mechanical and cognitive aptitude and experience running heavy equipment;
Minimum 2 plus years experience working in the mining industry running heavy equipment including: haul truck, loader, drill, scoop etc.
A valid driver’s license and access to personal transportation is required;
Experience as a leader is highly desirable
Eagerness to learn and develop
Ability to be flexible in job tasks and responsibilities so that work is balanced between team members
Demonstrated ability to share knowledge gained with others and the ability to solve problems

Other Requirements

Candidates will be required to participate in a comprehensive qualification process, including:

Completion of pre-placement functional screen
Provide proof of a valid Class 5 driver’s license
Demonstrate eligibility to work in Canada
Provide confirmation of valid educational requirements

Compensation

The anticipated salary for this position will be between $70,000 to $95,000. For applicants with specialized experience, a higher starting salary may be considered. A comprehensive benefits program and performance bonus plan will also be provided. This is not a camp operation and therefore the successful candidate will be required to relocate to the Kamloops area or travel and accommodation will be the responsibility of the successful applicant.
