About the Position

Norfolk General Hospital is seeking a Cardiac Sonographer. The ideal candidate would be dedicated to patient
care and committed to championing the Hospital’s Mission to relieve illness and suffering, and help people live
healthier lives. Reporting to the Director of Clinical Diagnostic Services, we are seeking a self-directed Cardiac
Sonographer who will be an integral part of our Cardiac Diagnostics team.

The Cardiac Sonographer will be responsible for the following:

  • Performs ultrasound for the assessment of cardiac disease processes and of congenital anomalies as
requested by clinical consultants
  • Performs diagnostic echocardiography procedures and optimizes equipment/protocols to ensure high
quality images
  • Performs cardiac stress testing and ECGs
  • Is aware of and follows all departmental and hospital policies and procedures
  • Troubleshoots technical problems to assist service person and expedite service/repair
  • Adheres to all health and safety policies, procedures and provisions and the recognition and reporting of
unsafe hazards and work practices

Education & Qualifications

  • Successful completion of an accredited Echocardiography training program
  • Current registration in good standing with ARDMS or CARDUP/Sonography Canada
  • As of January 2019, registration in good standing with the CMRTO is mandatory
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certificate – Heart & Stroke is required
  • Experience as an Echocardiographer required
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Medical Sonographers
  • Experienced in performing Stress Echocardiography preferred
  • Membership in the Canadian Society of Cardiology Technologists preferred
  • Experience with contrast echo’s preferred.
  • ECG and Cardiac stress testing experience preferred
  • Computer skills and experience with hospital computer systems and PACS
  • Personal attributes: self-starter who has the ability to prioritize effectively in a busy work environment. Able to
work independently and as part of a team. Cooperate and coordinate with other hospital departments, services
and staff to provide quality patient care
  • Excellent attendance record

Hours of Work: May include days, evenings, weekends/holidays and call back as required
