Job Summary:
The youth support supervisor at Orca Lelum plays a pivotal role in providing leadership and guidance to the team of youth support workers. Reporting to the program manager, this position is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the program and ensuring the well-being, participation and safety of the client.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Ensure that program activities are carried out effectively and participate directly in program delivery as needed.
2. Provide supervision to staff members and oversee administrative duties such as managing timesheets, maintaining client files, and handling human resource responsibilities as assigned.
3. Cultivate a supportive work environment for youth support workers by encouraging teamwork, collaboration, and professional development opportunities.
4. Demonstrate positive, trauma-informed, and relational practice approaches in interactions with both staff and youth participants.
5. Implement and oversee emergency procedures and crisis intervention techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.
6. Offer ongoing guidance and support to staff members while ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.
7. Create and deliver training programs and workshops to enhance the skills and knowledge of youth support workers in working with youth participants.
8. Attend and actively participate in team meetings as directed by the program manager to discuss program progress, challenges, and strategies for improvement.
9. Proactively address any issues or conflicts that arise within the team of youth support workers, working collaboratively with the program manager to find effective solutions.
10. Serve as a liaison between the Program Manager and youth support workers, providing feedback, addressing concerns, and ensuring adherence to program policies and procedures.
11. Collaborate with the Program Manager to develop and implement program goals, objectives, and strategies aligned with the overall mission and vision of the organization.
12. Ensure the effective implementation of program activities and interventions designed to meet the diverse needs of youth participants, including recreational, educational, and therapeutic activities.
13. Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to facilitate access to resources and services that support the well-being of clients.
14. Continuously monitor program outcomes and effectiveness, collecting data and feedback to inform program improvements and enhancements.
15. Ensure that all program activities and services comply with relevant regulations, standards, and policies governing youth support programs and services.
16. Offer direct support and assistance to youth participants as needed, including crisis intervention, counseling, advocacy, and mentoring.
17. Establish and maintain healthy relationships with youth participants by showing genuine interest in their lives, providing positive reinforcement for their good behaviors, and helping to build their self-esteem.
18. Work collaboratively with youth support workers and other team members to develop individualized support plans tailored to the unique needs and goals of each youth participant.
19. Advocate for the rights and interests of youth participants, ensuring that their voices are heard and their perspectives are valued in decision-making processes.
20. Carry out any other duties as required within the scope of the position to support the overall objectives of the organization.
Qualifications & Requirements:
o Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
o Previous experience working with youth in a supportive or therapeutic setting.
o Strong leadership and supervisory skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire others.
o Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with youth participants and team members.
o Knowledge of trauma-informed care principles and best practices in youth support services.
