Job Posting for Animal Protection Officer at Province of Manitoba
Manitoba Agriculture, Animal Health and Welfare branch, Office of the CVO (Chief Veterinary Officer) is currently looking for suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of:
ANIMAL PROTECTION OFFICER (CONTRACT) - WESTERN MB
This interesting and challenging position is responsible for the following:
Responding to Animal Welfare concerns and determining appropriate course of action under the Animal Care Act of Manitoba.
Conducting inspections to determine compliance under the Animal Care Act of Manitoba.
Enforcing compliance to ensure adequate animal care and husbandry, taking action to relieve animal of distress.
Transporting animals to veterinary facilities and shelters in order to receive appropriate care.
Issuing recommendations and corrective measures including monetary penalties to correct non-compliance as required under the Act.
Collecting evidence and samples
Liaising with partner agencies such as Public Health, Police, Office of the Fire Commissioner and Child & Family Services as required to ensure the safety of animals as well as the general public.

REQUIRED/ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 18 years of age
Education High School diploma or GED
Experience working with animals e.g Registered Veterinary Technicians (RVTs), animal boarding facilities staff, livestock farm staff, By-Law officer, Conservation officers, Government regulatory staff etc.
Strong animal handling skills & experience
Knowledge of animal husbandry
Strong written & verbal communication
Strong Interpersonal skills
Must be reliable and flexible with availability
Ability to work with diverse groups of people
Demonstrated ability to work independently and consult supervisors as required
Strong time management skills
Ability to de-escalate seemingly contentious conditions
Valid Class 5 Driver's License (Full)
Ability to provide a clean criminal background & vulnerable sector check
Effective problem solving and decision making skills
Basic computer & typing skills
Desired Qualifications:
Post Secondary Education
One or more completed years in Veterinary Technology, Animal Health Technology, Police Foundations or equivalent
Experience with various animal species
Knowledge of a second language or culture
