Position Description

We are looking for a highly motivated bioinformatician with practical experience in the processing and analysis of large genomic datasets including next-generation and single cell datasets to join a dynamic laboratory in Developmental and Stem Cell Biology program.

Our group focuses on the biology of brain tumours of children and adults, with a primary aim to understand how the molecular programs in normal neural stem cells cause and sustain the growth of these hard-to-treat cancers. Within our current research, we are generating large single cell multiomic datasets on disassociated cells for spatial applications.

Here's What You'll Get To Do:

  • You will be expected to process and analyze NGS data including library construction, single cell datasets (RNA and ATAC), including the integration of genomic (WGS, WES), transcriptomic (bulk RNAseq) and epigenomic (DNAm, bulk ATAC) datasets.
  • You will work closely with both wet and dry-lab scientists to collaboratively solve complex biological problems.
  • You will work on several large collaborative concurrent projects/priorities and manage HPC data storage.
  • You will manage the dissemination of research findings for publication in peer-review journals and conferences.

Here's What You'll Need:

  • A PhD in bioinformatics, biostatistics, computational biology or similar, with a strong publication record. Alternately, a PhD in another area combined with experience of high-throughput data analysis, supported by first-author publication(s) in this area.
  • Additional postdoctoral experience preferred.
  • Strong preference for candidates with additional experience in the analysis and integration of single cell (RNA and ATAC), genomic (WGS/WES), transcriptomic (RNA-seq) and epigenomic (DNAm, ATAC) datasets.
  • Experience working in a Unix/Linux environment.
  • Experience with HPC environments.
  • Experience with R or Python for complex data analysis and visualization.
  • Familiarity with public biomedical information resources such as genome browsers, data repositories and annotation databases.
  • A solid understanding of the relevant concepts in cancer biology, as well as enthusiasm for further learning.
  • Strong communication, data presentation and visualization skills.

Please provide current curriculum vitae as a single PDF including a publication list and names of two references. We thank all applicants for applying, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.

Employment Type:

Temporary, Full-Time (1 year renewable contract), modified benefits

Our Commitment to Diversity

The children and families we care for are from a variety of communities, and so are our employees. We welcome and encourage everyone to join our organization and be part of our team.

When requested, SickKids will provide access and inclusion supports to eligible candidates to support their full engagement during the interview and assessment process. Information received related to access or inclusion will be addressed confidentially.

Thank you for your interest in joining SickKids. Only those applicants selected for an interview will be contacted. In accordance with our Hospital policy, employment at SickKids is conditional upon the Hospital’s receipt of all necessary documentation.

FOR EXTERNAL APPLICANTS ONLY: As a health care institution, our highest priority is the safety of patients, families and staff. As a result, we are adopting all prevention measures to ensure the safety of our patients, families and our staff. Therefore, any offer of employment is conditional upon you submitting proof that you have been fully vaccinated with a Health Canada or World Health Organization (WHO) approved COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible and no later than fourteen (14) calendar days prior to the effective start date, in addition to satisfying any other condition(s) that may be set out in an offer. If a candidate fails to satisfy this condition (or any other condition(s) set out in an offer), any offer of employment shall be immediately rescinded.
