Job Summary:

The Director of Engagement and Partnerships will oversee and is responsible for the overall development and management of the Engagement and Partnerships team. The individual will provide team leadership while working closely with First Nations and partners to develop a Community Engagement Pathway to articulate a process of ongoing inclusion, communication and support. The primary goal is to stay connected to First Nations, create a streamlined approach to engagement and improve the SLFNHA response to community needs and issues. A community response outreach approach will help to ensure that the performance of the regional health care system will be centered around the client experience to address gaps/barriers that will lead to improved service delivery.

The Director of Engagement and Partnerships will report directly to the Senior Director of Strategic Policy, Planning & Quality.

Qualifications:

  • Persons of First Nations ancestry will be given preference (OHRC, Part II, Special Employment).
  • Ability to communicate in one of the First Nations dialects in the Sioux Lookout Zone is an asset.
  • Post Graduate training at a master’s level from a recognized university in Health Administration, Media/Communications, Social Work or health-related discipline
  • 6 to 10 years progressive experience in the health sector, which may include direct client service delivery, program planning, and policy development.
  • 3-5 years of experience leading, supervising and managing multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Experience working with and building healthy rapport with First Nations and partners.
  • Experience, knowledge, and awareness of the social complexities of Northern and remote First Nations and sensitive to First Nation ways of learning, traditions, cultures and values
  • Experience working directly with First Nations in the Sioux Lookout region
  • Possess strong leadership, supervisory/management skills; project management skills
  • Possess strong communication, interpersonal skills; problem solving skills, conflict management skills; strategic planning
  • Knowledge of social determinants of health, program planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Knowledge of group dynamics and how to navigate working with diverse groups
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability and willingness to travel, at times extensively, and to work evenings and weekends.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
  • Ability to complete the duties of the position on a regular basis.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain respectful and cooperative partnerships with First Nations, tribal councils, external partners, health care providers and other key stakeholders.
  • Promote and cultivate respectful, collaborative approaches internally and externally.
  • Development of a Community Engagement Pathway, guided by First Nations, tribal councils, Elders and partners, to articulate a process of ongoing inclusion, communication and support.
  • Implementation of the Community Engagement Pathway and development of an ongoing process to integrate community feedback as part of a continuous organizational improvement cycle.
  • Develop mechanisms to support a planning and decision-making framework to ensure that alignment of all decisions and planning at levels is in accordance with direction from leadership.
  • Research and develop documents that will enhance engagement and partnerships (ie. partnership agreements, memorandums of understanding, project charters, etc).
  • Responsible for program planning and development, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collect and analyze previous engagement reports and recommendations.
  • Assist in the improvement of accountability to leadership throughout the development of a First Nations-focused reporting and accountability framework
  • Measure and analyze engagement metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of strategies and make data-driven improvements.
  • Support the development of a Health Directors Network and other strategic relationships throughout the system through a network of regional task forces and working groups
  • Responsible for developing, managing and monitoring budgets and expenditures.
  • Identifies potential funding sources, prepares grant proposals, and cultivates relationships with funding partners.
  • Responsible for the preparation, maintenance, and submission of all correspondence, program reports and briefing notes.
  • Sets clear performance expectations and provide regular feedback to team members.
  • Oversees the performance management, recruitment and retention of all team members.
  • Responsible for the assignment of work, coaching and mentoring, approving leave, responding to grievances, conducting Workplace Incident Inquiries, and initiating progressive discipline processes as required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
