The Division of Cardiology invites applications from outstanding cardiologists with advanced training in Echocardiography (level III) wishing to pursue an academically focused career. This position is primarily based at St. Paul’s Hospital (SPH) in conjunction with a potential clinical role at Vancouver General Hospital (VGH), both of which are University of British Columbia (UBC)-affiliated teaching hospitals. The successful applicant will be expected to pursue an academically focused career based on a strong publication and research track record, signaling their ability to obtain peer reviewed grant funding within the early phase of their career.
The applicant must have a specific interest in Echocardiography with a minimum of 2 years of accredited training in echocardiography with a research focus. The role encompasses all aspects of echocardiography including diagnostic TTE, TEE, stress echo and advanced imaging modalities. The role may include structural heart/interventional echocardiography responsibilities, depending on the training and expertise of the applicant. He/she/they will be closely involved in the University of British Columbia training program in Adult Cardiology and expected to develop an academic focus in Echocardiography. This will include a half time commitment to Echocardiography research. Additional training in quality improvement would be an asset.
Applicants must be certified in Internal Medicine and Cardiology by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RSPSC) and must be eligible for licensure in the Province of British Columbia. Those applicants with AFC certification in Echocardiography from the RCPSC or similar from the ABIM will receive particular consideration. Candidates should possess exceptional communication and teaching skills. Applicants will be able to demonstrate a deep awareness and knowledge of equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) principles, and how they relate to successful interactions with patients and team members.
This role will also be an unpaid clinical faculty position within the Division of Cardiology at the University of British Columbia (UBC). As part of the UBC Division of Cardiology’s academic focus, the successful candidate is expected to substantially support the development and growth of the UBC Cardiology research and education programs. The Division of Cardiology will support an appointment of Clinical Assistant Professor or higher, however clinical faculty appointments at UBC are assigned at a rank determined by the Academic Appointments, Reappointments, Promotions and Tenure Committee (AARPT) of the UBC Department of Medicine.
