Job Description:
Reporting to our Director of Finance, Stirling Marathon is seeking a Controller. This is a new and unique position that will initially cover a maternity leave in Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable while being involved in the implementation of our new ERP system (TGI E21) and accounting process automation. The position will include working closely with the Director of Finance and evolve into managing all aspects of our IT, finance, and accounting processes.
Responsibilities/Key Accountabilities:
Accounts Receivable:
- Perform all aspects of the accounts receivable function, including invoice processing and customer account reconciliation.
- Process credit memos including allowances, price adjustments and damage allowances.
- Issue return authorizations to customers as needed.
- Credit approve all dealer orders before shipping.
- Submit orders for approval through central billing customers and buy groups.
- Implement and maintain procedures for ensuring timely collection of receivables and minimizing bad debts.
- Prepare detailed reports on the status of accounts receivable, aging summaries, and collection activities.
- Request credit references and set up new customers.
Accounts Payable:
- Perform all aspects of the accounts payable function, including invoice processing, payment execution, and vendor account reconciliation.
- Ensure accurate and timely processing of payments and effective management of cash flow.
- Negotiate with suppliers to improve payment terms and reduce costs where possible.
General Accounting and Control:
- Work with the Director of Finance to define, measure, analyze, improve, and control current processes.
- Perform cost accounting functions within the manufacturing sector of the company.
- Direct and integrate recycling programs related to our company packaging into financial frameworks and leveraging practices to enhance fiscal efficiency.
- Manage SRED requirements in accordance with CRA requirements.
- Responsible for the preparation of individual company and consolidated monthly financials.
- Coordinate month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting.
- Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards.
- Assist with budget preparation and financial audits.
- Manage compliance and reporting for provincial recycling programs.
- Monitor and manage reporting for government grants, loans, export, or employment programs where applicable.
Skills and Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in accounting, with specific experience AR & AP management.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
- CPA or working towards your CPA qualification.
- Experience in cost accounting in a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership abilities and a team-oriented approach.
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Experience with TGI E21 or similar ERP accounting software is an asset.
